A History of Gas Stations in North Omaha

Gas Stations. They seem like mundane, everyday places that aren’t that important and shouldn’t really interest people who are interested in history. However, growing up in the Miller Park neighborhood I was always fixated with the squatty little building that stands at North 24th and Himebaugh. I knew it looked interesting, and I wanted to learn more. Its taken me more than 20 years, but I’ve finally learned enough to write a short history of gas stations in North Omaha.

There are many older gas stations still standing across North Omaha.
This station is located at North 30th and Decatur Streets.
This former Phillips 66 station is located at North 16th and Willis Streets in the Saratoga neighborhood.
This former Phillips 66 station is pictured in the 1980s. It is located at North 30th and Kansas in the Miller Park neighborhood.
This former Phillips 66 station is located in the Miller Park neighborhood at North 24th and Himebaugh.
When this pic was taken in the 1950s, this was a Phillips 66 gas station. It was built in the 1910s as a White Rose Gas Station. Today, its been replaced by the Tesaro Gas Station.
Built in the distinctive style of Phillips 66 in the 1920s, this station is located in the Near North Side neighborhood at North 16th and Yates Streets.
White Rose built this gas station in the Near North Side at Florence Boulevard and Miami Streets in the 1910s.
This Derby Gasoline station was located in Florence at North 30th and Willit Streets.
This was a White Rose Gas Station that was built in the 1920s at North 24th and Willis in the Near North Side neighborhood.
This was a 1920s White Rose Gas Station that still stands at North 16th and Commercial Avenue in the Saratoga neighborhood.
