North O’s Planes, Trains & Automobiles – AND MORE! Presentation by Adam Fletcher Sasse

North O’s Planes, Trains and Automobiles—AND MORE!—Getting around a large community has always been a challenge, but North Omaha has always met the struggle in a lot of ways. Adam’s presentation will include stories of race cars, streetcars, Eppley Airfield, the old boulevard system, a velodrome, and more. People have always moved around the community, whether it was for public transportation, recreation, industrialization, or simply to have perspiration.

On June 16, 2023, I made a presentation to Mt. Olive Lutheran Church called “North O’s Planes, Trains & Automobiles – AND MORE!” In this slideshow, I showed how the railroads, interstates, boulevards and more influenced, drove and transformed the history of the community for the last 170+ years.

  1. At 30.40 of your film you have a brief shot of an ad for Page’s Aerial show…..any more info as to date, was this Ray Page etc? Thank you.

      1. Yes, still interested. As you may be aware, much history of him and his locales in Lincoln.

  2. My father had a 1918 Douglas Touring car. It was always my understanding that this was the only CAR ever produced in Omaha. Was the Omaha car ever actually produced and sold ?. He acquired this car in about 1951 from a neighbor who had gone on vacation while a contractor converted his garage into a new family room.
He got the garage closed in just fine but never removed the old (1918 Douglas) car.
The neighbor , upon returning from his trip to this problem, told my father he could have the car if he could get it out without damaging his new room. My father took the car out piece by piece through the walk through door and reassembled it next door in our garage. He was instrumental in starting the Omaha Horseless Carraige Club and became it’s first president. The car won first place in the Concours D’ Elegance at Offutt A.F.B. in 1953. I believe only about 50 of these were ever made. I’d sure like to know where this one is

    1. Hi Brad, and thanks for your note! If you’re still interested, check out my article on the history of vehicles made in North Omaha. There are some interesting points there, but I don’t cover the reality that there were several brands of cars built in Omaha including the Humpmobile. Anyway, that article is at https://northomahahistory.com/2017/12/14/a-history-of-vehicles-made-in-north-omaha/

Let me know if you’re still interested in more and I’ll do some further digging.
